Catherine Labiran (she/her) is a Project Lead at Social Insights. She is passionate about community-based participatory research and advancing human rights through poetry, advocacy, and research. As a Nigerian woman, born in New York and raised in London, she strives to infuse her diverse cultural experiences in her work.

Catherine employs qualitative and participatory approaches in her work with organizations that include Black Feminist Future, the Liberatory Leadership Praxis Project, and me too International. She is particularly passionate about the intersection of race, gender, and migration. She has worked with a wide range of social justice and human rights organizations, including The Black Alliance for Just Immigration and The US Human Rights Network.

She has served on numerous advisory committees focused on advancing human rights and social justice, including the Planning Committee for United We Rise, a coalition striving to end the HIV epidemic in Black communities across the United States, and the advisory committee for National Bail Out. This collective strives to end pretrial detention and, ultimately, mass incarceration. In 2019, she was selected as a Fellow for People of African Descent by the United Nations’ Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights.

Her global perspective and creative gifts facilitate her strengths in building accessible and engaging data visualizations and analyses. She uses her training in somatics to facilitate spaces with care, spaciousness, and rest. Catherine maintains her joyful spirit by collecting vinyl records, listening to jazz, communing with nature, and connecting with her body.
